This opportunity aims at building and operating marine finfish cage farms along the Red Sea.
Located along the Red Sea, KSA is an ideal location for Aquaculture with favorable geographical, environmental and climatic conditions:
- Long coastline along the Red Sea: ~1,800 KM
- Suitable cage depth: 20 m to 50 m
- Pristine water and adequate DO: 7.04 mg/l
- Low wave length: 0.5 m to 1 m
- Adequate salinity: 35 to 41 PPT depending on location
- Suitable water temperature: 18°C to 30°C - which allows for local production of a wide range of different species
In addition to the favorable conditions, KSA has a growing local fish market and big potential for export. To capitalize on its potential, the Saudi Arabian government is committed to unlocking the sector by opening it for private investments.
As such, the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture (MEWA) is looking for private players to invest in the Aquaculture sector in KSA. The Ministry has identified more than 15 plots along the Red Sea, from Tabuk in the North to Jazan in the South. The area has been identified as suitable for aquaculture after rigorous exploration of the Red Sea shores.
As such the area conforms to the standards adopted in the Kingdom which have been issued by the Fisheries Agency in 2017 (1438 AH). The plots area could be expanded based on the needs of the investor
