The Saudi-Iraqi Coordination Council committees meeting was held in Riyadh today, chaired by Dr. Majed bin Abdullah al Qasabi, Saudi Minister of Trade and Investment, and Iraqi Minister of Planning and Trade Dr. Suleiman al-Jamili. The meeting brought together Excellencies and officials of both coutries.
Dr. ALQasabi has underscored the overwhelming strong ties that brings the two countries together along with the synergy aimed at strengthening the bonds and enhancing cooperation in trade investment between the two countries.
"The importance of working in the Saudi-Iraqi Coordination Council is drawn from our plan of working on various tracks to come up with the desired output of joints efforts" he added.
Dr. Suleiman al-Jamili, Iraqi Minister of Planning and Trade, said that the two countries are rapidly advancing on the path of strong relationship and the direct airlines will resume soon. He also highlighted that the upcoming days will witness the process of getting a visa from Iraq by the Saudi Embassy and the consulate in AL Basra.
"The political, social and economic relationships is swiftly advancing as well as investments and economic opportunities to be reaped by both countries and we are highly content of such relationships" He added.
Officials of both countries had the chance to go over a plan aimed at developing the intraregional trade and investment opportunities and address any challenges. Furthermore, the meeting included signing the first minutes of Saudi-Iraqi Coordination Council, the approval of the mechanism and the governance of the work of the committees of the Council, customs cooperation agreement and the agreement to establish Iraqi Arar land border.
On the sidelines of the meeting, the Saudi-Iraqi Business Council held a meeting in the presence of Saudi senior businessmen and Iraqi officials.
The first Saudi-Iraqi coordination council was held in October 2017 under the patronage of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman Bin Abdul Aziz Al-Saud, Iraqi Prime Minister Haidar Al-Abadi and US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson.
